Manchester City is hoping their new £17.6m Spanish international signing Jesus Navas can help propel them to another Premier League title victory, as well as boosting their chances in the Champions League.

While the 27-year-old is known for his chronic homesickness, Jesus Navas, who has played at Sevilla since he was 15-years-old, will hope to settle in quickly in the northern city of Manchester. He’ll experience the British weather at its best and at its worst.

He’ll experience the British way of life too, but escapism is sometimes a footballer’s best friend – escapism from the physical and mental pressure to keep fit for games week after week, while also being able to have the energy to sign autographs and handle Britain’s invasive tabloid media.

What a footballer new to England needs is a fun and quirky car? Introducing the Austin Seven ‘Ruby’ Saloon from 1938, there is a pristine example on show at RM Auctions’ London sale in early September.

Nicknamed the ‘Baby Austin’, it was produced from 1922 until 1939 and was so successful it wiped out much of the competition in the small car market.

Of the final models made, this 1938 saloon is one of the finest examples of the 290,000 models manufactured by the Austin Motor Company.

It seems somewhat bizarre to think of a footballer driving a classic such as an Austin 7 but it truly is a gorgeous piece of engineering that takes away the complexities of driving a vintage car.

It may not be fast but it is trendy and ‘cool’. Footballers will soon be dishing emptying their pockets to buy cheaper classic cars so they can experience the thrills of a bygone era, thrills that young men simply cannot appreciate without getting behind the wheel of these beautiful pieces of British engineering.

The 1938 Austin Seven ‘Ruby’ Saloon would suit Jesus Navas perfectly – it’s a car that you simply can’t take too seriously, a car that brings a very large smile to everyone’s face.
