The Honda team is celebrating today following a successful weekend at Canada Heights, Kent for the fifth round of the Red Bull Pro Nationals, which saw Nico Aubin and Brad Anderson visit the podium five times between them.
After posting impressive times in qualifying, Aubin went to the start line in pole position with Anderson just behind in fourth. In the opening race, Anderson got the holeshot and led for the first half before finishing a solid second. Meanwhile Aubin got caught up in another rider’s mistake on the opening lap and battled hard to recover to 12th at the finish.
In Moto 2 on Sunday, both riders made great starts and pushed hard at the front in the battle for the podium places. Anderson again finished in a solid second place with Aubin right behind in third. The final race saw Anderson lead for two thirds of the distance before being passed by his team-mate and championship leader Kristian Whatley. Aubin pushed on and finished the weekend on a high with a well-deserved race win, which saw him claim second place in the championship overall. Brad Anderson lies in fifth overall.
Team Manager Dave Thorpe said: “It’s been a great weekend for us and the first time in a long time that we have had two riders under the awning. Nico will be disappointed with the opening race result but it all came together in the last race. Brad has shown good pace all weekend and it will only be a matter of time before he can take a race win. We will work hard in the coming weeks to close the gap on the front.”
Brad Anderson added: “It’s been a good weekend for me, I had 2 out of 3 holeshots and turned that into two second places and a third place in the last race. I tried my hardest in the last race but was missing that little bit at the end but with more time on the bike on the coming weeks that will certainly come.”
Nico Aubin, who is now second in the championship, concluded: “The Saturday race wasn’t the greatest after colliding with another rider on the opening lap and only coming back to 12th. Sunday was better, but I messed up the start in the first race and went to wide but came back for third. Then in the last race I got a good start and was away at the front and passed Brad for the win, which was good.”
