Liverpool legend Pepe Reina could be set to splash out on a brand new top-of-the-range Ferrari or Lamborghini, after his shock loan move to Napoli.

The Spanish international, who has been loyal to the Reds since he joined the club from Villarreal in 2005, and won the 2010 FIFA World Cup with his country, was surprised at how Liverpool Football Club’s management agreed to loan him to Napoli without consulting him first.

It is a matter that has upset the 30-year-old greatly and one that has upset a huge number of Liverpool fans. With 47 per cent of his Premier League matches resulting in clean sheets, it seems bizarre why Liverpool has forced Reina out after eight years at Anfield.

In a letter to Liverpool fans on his official website, Reina said: “If I have one regret, it is the way that I am leaving. It is only natural that I would be disappointed that the Liverpool management agreed to loan me to Napoli without telling me first. I thought that I deserved better than that, even though I understand that difficult decisions have to be taken in football.”

He had also been linked to a summer move to Barcelona, where he began his career. He told his club he would be open to a move if such an offer were to be made but he was ‘surprised’ by the Napoli situation.

“A lot has been made about me informing the club that if an offer came in from Barcelona that I would have liked them to consider it,” he said. “But I had also spoken to the club about the possibility of extending my contract if the offer was not made. I told the manager that I wanted to play for Liverpool and that Barcelona would only become an option for me if the opportunity arrived, like the rumours said it would, as it would be a chance for me to go back home.

“When it didn''t come I was happy to fight for my place so I was surprised that Liverpool decided it was in the club''s interests to send me to Napoli instead.”

So now that Reina is stuck with Napoli, who last season finished runner up, could he rocket them to win Serie A and lift a major title for himself. He’ll certainly think the team has a chance. And with that thinking, he’ll surely want to jump into some local cars while he’s on his loan spell. Perhaps a Ferrari or a Lamborghini?

Motortrades Insight takes a look at the two cars Liverpool legend Pepe Reina is likely to buy while on his loan spell in Italy.
