Arguably the best British playmaker in football right now, Gareth Bale has been critical to Tottenham Hotspur’s success in the last few seasons, having helped rocket the team into the Champions League in 2010/11, working their way to the quarter finals before losing to Real Madrid.

And it is Real Madrid which is making a record bid to sign the Cardiff-born winger for a record £86.3m. Daniel Levy, chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, refused the bid, and Gareth Bale has had his dream move to the Spanish outlet shattered, leaving him distraught.

Since joining Spurs from Southampton in 2007, the Welshman has always dreamed of playing for the Bernabéu club in the event that he left North London.

But now, Spurs have offered Gareth Bale a massive pay deal – in excess of £150,000 a week. Levy has refused to sell Bale this summer, but has recognised the allure of Real Madrid, offering a lucrative £200,000 a week deal for the 24-year-old PFA Young Player of the Year.

Having scored a staggering 31 goals for club and country last season, 17 more than in 2011-12, Bale also set up an additional 17 goals in 2012-13.

It is his supreme skills on the pitch, being able to work well with his fellow players and read games with hawk-eye vision, that has helped make him the most sought-after player in the world.

It looks as if for the time being, Gareth Bale is staying put. So with his new £150,000-a-week salary, what cars could the Welshman buy to celebrate the pay rise?

Assuming he is paid £150,000 every week on a monthly basis, after tax, Gareth Bale’s earnings will be at least £3.93m a year. By setting aside 20 per cent for the road, this would leave him with around £786,000 to spend on cars.
