Chelsea’s Fernando Torres and the 1957 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk III from RM Auctions

Fernando Torres is well known for driving around in his Aston Martin DB9 Vantage, but with the brand becoming so common, has Aston Martin lost its ‘cool’ factor?
Aston Martin is most certainly not losing its coolness. But with RM Auctions preparing a very rare Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk III for auction in London on September 9, could Fernando Torres go back in time and experience the vintage side of the brand?
With an annual salary of £13.9m, the racing green Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk III could prove to be far cooler than any other car driven by Chelsea’s talented roster of footballers.

Having replaced the DB2 Mk II the Mk III is the ultimate classic sports car which is sure to turn heads and make any man excited.
Produced from March 1957 to July 1959, the Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk III was nearly nine inches longer than the DB2 but weighed a hefty 159kg more – an increase of around 15 per cent.
A total of 552 were made with 84 of those being Drophead Coupes and, near the end of the run, five Fixedhead Coupes with DBD engines.

Dual exhausts were fitted to only 47 cars – and this is one of them.
The DBD engine was introduced at the 1958 London Motor Show. It was similar to the DBB but with three SU HV6 semi-downdraught carburettors, a quoted output of 180 bhp. The Mk III’s DBA engine (‘DBA 944’ on this particular model) had 50 per cent more power than the standard edition.
Chassis No. AM300/3/1325 would be perfect for Fernando Torres for his runs around the British countryside and city. And unlike many Aston Martins which suffer from a limited amount of space, there is enough room to fit many footballs, shoes and shirts in the rear.
