Mercedes Formula One drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg wowed tens of thousands of spectators at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.Taking it in turns behind the wheel of the Mercedes W 02 chassis, Lewis Hamilton burned up the tyres on the Saturday while Nico Rosberg continued to absorb the heat on Sunday, with a mix of donuts, twists and turns. Emerging from his run up the Goodwood Hill, Lewis Hamilton said: “To be back at Goodwood in front of the fans is great. I maybe got a bit carried away with the burnouts but it’s pretty difficult not to when the crowd is cheering.”
A little more sedate but no less loud was Nico’s run in a 1954 W 196.Nico added: “The fans here have been really enthusiastic and it was fun on the Hill, and going between two cars more than 50 years apart was an amazing experience. Last year at Goodwood I put my hood up and had a sneaky look around the Festival without anyone noticing – hopefully I can do the same this year, it’s a special place and there’s nothing like it anywhere in the world.”An estimated 180,000 people attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year – making it one of the most successful yet.
