Fleet Show sees 30 per cent rise in visitors but some people believe fleet shows ‘have had their day’

The Fleet Show at Silverstone chalked up an impressive 30 per cent growth in visitor numbers over the 2012 event, underlining the strong interest that still exists among fleet decision makers in finding out about the latest products and services to arrive in the world of fleet.
The combination of balmy weather, a superb venue, an extensive indoor exhibition and an incredible line-up of new cars provided a compelling argument for fleet managers to make the trip to Silverstone. And those who did were rewarded with all the thrills that are expected of the UK’s premier motor racing circuit.
Fleet Show organiser, Ross Durkin, said: “We set out to provide visitors with as full a programme for the day as possible and the buzz in the halls during the early part of the day was absolutely amazing.
“This year’s show was significantly bigger than last year’s in every respect, not least the number of superb new cars and vans available for test driving on the Grand Prix and Stowe circuits.
“As the day went on, the activity on the two circuits built to a point where the excitement it generated was outstanding. While we weren’t trying to recreate the atmosphere of a race day, there’s no doubt that many of those involved in the fleet industry still have a real passion for cars.”
The Show hosted a number of significant events including the inaugural Fleet Driver of the Year competition, jointly organised by ALD Automotive, Peak Performance, and Toyota & Lexus Fleet Services.
Meanwhile, a comprehensive session of seminars and workshops provided an opportunity for those who wished to find out about the latest thinking on new technology and fleet management techniques.
Ross Durkin added: “We were well aware before the Show that in the current age we are competing with a whole host of media and events for fleet buyers’ attention.
“Fleet managers can find just about anything on the internet these days, and there have been suggestions from some quarters that fleet shows per se have had their day.
“But the quantity and quality of visitors at the Show proves that the right proposition can still get people out in significant numbers. We are already looking at ways to build on the success of this year’s show to deliver an even better event in 2014.”
