Kate Middleton has been seen behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf, and, more often than not, as a passenger in a Land Rover or a Jaguar. One major worry on her mind is the safety of her child when he or she is born, especially when it comes to driving on Britain's hazardous roads.Since Prince Harry has allegedly revealed the gender of the Duchess of Cambridge’s child, which I somewhat doubt, I shall consider that she is having a baby boy for the purpose of this post. While we are all used to seeing members of the Royal family ferried around in Land Rovers and Jaguars, they are not typically cars a young couple would drive. When it comes to her baby, Kate Middleton will be thinking about the best and only the best for the safety of her child. And that is why I have selected two quirky but supremely safe cars I think are perfect for Kate – the Hyundai i30 and the Volkswagen Beetle. Both cars are suitable for a young couple. Will and Kate are no different. Euro NCAP have given both cars 90 per cent for their ability to protect children. Combined with a snug and secure child seat, along with the added protection of armoured plating, could the Hyundai i30 and Volkswagen Beetle be the perfect cars for the Duchess of Cambridge? The Hyundai i30: Is this the car of choice for our future queen?
Euro NCAP’s report is upfront about the car’s protection of children. “Based on dummy results in the dynamic tests, the i30 scored maximum points for its protection of both the 18 month infant and the 3 year old child,” the report says. “In the frontal impact, forward movement of the head of the 3 year dummy, sat in a forward facing restraint, was not excessive. In the side impact, both dummies were properly contained by the protective shells of their restraints, minimising he likelihood of contact with parts of the car''s interior.”It’s a gorgeous car. Stylish and practical. And while spacious, it could prove a squeeze with her Royal bodyguard in the car too.Volkswagen Beetle: colours are everything for a Princess.
The Volkswagen Beetle is iconic, stylish and perfect for customisation. The Beetle makes the perfect car for a baby and her mother and it would not be too surprising if Kate chose to have it painted with her favourite colours: Royal Blue combined with ice-white, a little silver, a drop of cream and dash of yellow. “Based on dummy readings in the impact tests, the Beetle scored maximum points for its protection of the 3 year dummy,” a Euro NCAP crash report said. “Forward movement of that dummy, sat in a forward facing restraint, was not excessive in the frontal impact. In the side impact, both dummies were properly contained by the shells of their restraints, minimising the likelihood of dangerous head contacts.”The Volkswagen Beetle is a colourful and fun choice for Kate Middleton and her child, who will most enjoy the ‘funny’ shape of the car.
